What Unarmed Guarding Delivers

Unarmed officers are PSIRA-registered professionals providing visible deterrence, access control, and first-response capability. Appropriate when: the primary function is access control; the environment is customer-facing; the location has a moderate threat profile; and electronic security systems are already in place. Common applications: office buildings, shopping centres, schools, healthcare, hospitality.

What Armed Guarding Adds

Armed guarding represents a higher tier of training and fundamentally different threat-response capability. Appropriate when: the site handles cash or high-value goods; the location has a documented history of violent incidents; after-hours security is required in an isolated environment; or the site is a National Key Point facility.

The Legal Framework for Armed Security in South Africa

Armed officers must hold a valid Firearm Competency Certificate under the Firearms Control Act, in addition to PSIRA registration. PGM Consulting's armed officers are trained at our own PSIRA-accredited facility, hold all required competency certificates, and undergo regular re-assessment. Proof of compliance is provided to every client as standard.
